In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.
Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $95,000.00
Maximum $109,000.00
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Benefits Administration, this position is the Assistant Manager of Benefits, supporting the Senior Manager over the employee health benefits area including the 403(b) retirement plan.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bilingual skills (Spanish) are preferred
- Ability to interpret Plan Document provisions
- Strong auditing skills with ability to analyze spreadsheets and manipulate data
- Working knowledge of Employee Retirement Income and Security Act, Department of Labor and Internal Revenue Service regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accommodations process
- Expert knowledge of Excel and proficiency in HRIS systems, preferably Banner Management System
- Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Hands-on understanding of benefit plans and administration with a sound understanding of federal and state laws and regulations related to administering employee benefits
- Good working knowledge of 403(b) Retirement Plans and ERISA regulations
- Possess a service-oriented, results-driven, customer-centric professional approach
- Excellent written and verbal skills, strong analytical and interpretive skills; excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work within a team environment; ability to work with changing priorities and difficult people
- Able to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
- Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively, clearly and concisely in both oral and written communications; uses appropriate English grammar and punctuation in all communications
- Strong computer/technology proficiency including Microsoft Office application HRIS and data entry: Skilled in report design and preparation at regular intervals (monthly, quarterly, annually)
- Knowledge of benefits laws and regulations applying to California and Oregon.
- Professional demeanor and positive attitude to interact with a multitude of campus constituents and vendors.
- Ability to provide lead work direction, strong ability to organize workload effectively and set priorities.
- Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple concurrent projects.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.

Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree or a combination of education and work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Credentials: Accredited Pension Administrator (APA) or Accredited Pension Representative (APR)
- Advanced knowledge of Employee Retirement Income and Security Act, Department of Labor and Internal Revenue Service regulatory requirements
