    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Director of University Housing for Business Service Operations, the Assistant Director of University Housing Human Resources (HR) manages a team of 3 - 4 professional staff who oversees all aspects of University Housing's human resources, payroll, and recruitment functions. A primary focus for this position is managing University Housing's employee labor and relation (ELR) functions. This includes assisting the team with ADA accommodations, protected leave requests, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes for a diverse workforce.

    University Housing consists of around 80 officers of administration, 360 classified staff, and 1,000 student employees. The classified and student staff are part of a unionized workforce. The Assistant Director of University Housing HR collaborates closely with University Housing Unit Directors, the Director of University Housing, as well as campus HR partners to navigate the complex ELR matters that arise in our dynamic environment. This position is responsible for developing processes that align with and support the department, divisional, and University goals.

    University Housing is looking for an enthusiastic leader who can direct the team in the daily transactional load while maintaining excellent customer service to our larger department. We are excited to bring an HR partner on to the team who can assist the department in strategic planning and training development.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Four years of human resources experience
  • Two years of experience managing professional staff

    *HR experience is subject matter expertise in one or more of the functional areas of HR, such as recruitment and hiring; classification and compensation; employee and labor relations; or employee training, development, and retention.

  • High-level interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships and work effectively with colleagues, faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds
  • Understanding and knowledge of employment law related to equal opportunity, discrimination, affirmative action
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail in composing, typing and proof-reading materials
  • Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Current PHR or SHRM-CP certification
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with Employee Labor and Relations
  • Experience in Higher Education
  • Experience managing HR functions in a unionized workforce, and applying collective bargaining agreements to recruitment and employee labor relations issues
