Job Summary:

The Human Resources Specialist will work within the HR team completing tasks related to the day-to-day operations of the human resource functions within the Department of Family Medicine (DFM). Specifically, functions and transactional work supporting faculty, staff and student positions. This position, independently and with staff and faculty leadership, identifies opportunities for professional development programs to meet organizational needs, training/cross-training, mentorship programs, and other opportunities for improvement and working with appropriate stakeholders to implement. Effective communication is paramount in fostering a cohesive work environment and ensuring the smooth implementation of HR policies and procedures. Assists with, and performs in whole as necessary, payroll and benefits processes, HCM administration, department-wide recruitment and onboarding processes, and faculty affairs efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS system.
  • Assist employees with benefits inquiries and liaise with University HR to ensure accurate enrollment and issue resolution.
  • Monitor and improve employee retention strategies, including career development pathways and engagement programs.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and employee relations concerns.
  • Identify and coordinate training opportunities related to leadership, team development, and faculty/staff career growth.
  • Assist in department-wide change management initiatives, including process improvements and organizational restructuring.
  • Support the faculty appointment, promotion, and tenure process.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on the Anschutz campus in Aurora Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Senior Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, business administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years of HR generalist experience.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and HR data reporting.

Principal Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, business administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three (3) years of HR generalist experience.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and HR data reporting.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a higher education, healthcare, or research environment.
  • Four (4) or more years of HR generalist experience.
  • Experience with Taleo (CU Careers) and PeopleSoft (HCM).
  • Experience with Smartsheet and DocuSign.
  • Experience in organizational development, employee engagement, or leadership training.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR) or Organizational Development certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of HR laws (FMLA, ADA, Title IX, etc.), rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.
  • Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, employee relations, or organizational development and human resource policy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Thorough knowledge of current management and leadership methods and best practices.
  • Ability to manage HR processes such as recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and payroll adjustments.
  • Proficiency in HR systems, data tracking, and reporting, with the ability to analyze workforce trends and support decision-making for HR needs.
  • Ability to design and implement development programs, engagement initiatives, and leadership training to support career growth and department culture.
  • Knowledge or previous experience with supporting change initiatives, restructuring efforts, and continuous improvement projects to enhance HR operations and organizational effectiveness.
  • Ability to ensure alignment of HR initiatives with departmental goals.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Senior Level: $51,368 - $65,340

Principal Level: $59,073 - $75,141

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
