PROGRAM SUMMARY:
The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) is a federally funded educational project designed to assist migrant youth successfully transition to the university and complete the first year of study. CAMP is under the College Support Programs (CSP), under the division of Student Affairs. The main objective of CAMP is to increase the university success of youth from migrant and low-income backgrounds. CSUMB CAMP serves a minimum of 40 entering freshmen students each year and provides a comprehensive and intensive series of services and interventions aimed at increasing student persistence and degree completion.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the CAMP Associate Director and the general direction of the Director of College Support Programs, the CAMP Advising and Recruitment Specialist is responsible for outreach and recruitment of low-income and first-generation migrant/seasonal college students as well as providing academic and career guidance to all CAMP participants. The Specialist will review confidential academic transcripts and evaluations and advise appropriate coursework pursuant to the student's academic goals. They will also assist with the CAMP summer bridge program.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include. but are not limited to. the following:
Academic Advising - 50%
The CAMP Advising and Recruitment Specialist is responsible for assisting the Associate Director with general program planning and implementation, including but not limited to, academic and career guidance, in collaboration with on and off campus partners, during CAMP students' first year through graduation. Specialists are also responsible for assisting with planning and administering leadership cultural, and socially significant and relevant student events. Plan, coordinate and facilitate academic and career exploration activities and providing participants with internship and scholarship information. 1. Hold regular advising appointments with CAMP participants on a monthly basis.
2. Maintain regular communication with CAMP participants and ensure student file and data system updates.
3. Assist in hiring, training, and supervising student staff.

5. Guide and support student's development of self-advocacy and institutional navigation skills of on and off campus resources.
6. Collect and maintain relevant program data.
7. Assist in writing and preparing reports, evaluations, proposals and other documents necessary for the continued funding and successful operation of the program.
8. Assist and collaborate with other CSUMB Student Support Programs to orient and enroll new and continuing students to the campus.
9. Maintain positive working relationship with other campus departments and offices
Recruitment - 50%
The CAMP Advising and Recruitment Specialist is responsible for outreach and recruitment within the CSUMB tri-county service area to inform students, parents, and school personnel of CAMP and CSUMB general information. Outreach and recruitment efforts will include college admissions information, financial aid information and enrollment confirmation process to students and parents to ensure university matriculation. Must be willing to travel. The mileage will be reimbursed
1. Facilitate CAMP program and college admissions presentations and financial aid workshops, and enrollment confirmation information to secondary school students and parents.
2. Liaison to community agencies, organizations, high schools, colleges, and non-profit programs, within the CSUMB tri-county service area and beyond, to establish an extensive networking source for the purpose of identifying prospective students and accessing resources for migrant students.
3. Assist in parent outreach and parent conferences
4. Collaborate and establish partnerships with Migrant Education Program Regional Offices to identify and support prospective CAMP eligible students. 5. Represent the College Assistance Migrant Program at college and university fairs, middle school and high school events, or other relevant outreach event.
6. Meet weekly to discuss recruitment/admissions progress.
7. Handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information where judgement and discretion are essential.
8. Ensure confidentiality of all program records and other sensitive information.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
1. Attend workshops, conferences as deemed necessary.
2. Promote and maintain an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Must demonstrate a clear understanding of migrant or seasonal farm-working background. Possess excellent advisory and leadership skills that demonstrate sensitivity towards students' background. Demonstrate working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of programs serving migrant farmworker students, lowincome populations.
Possess knowledge on all aspects of recruitment and admissions for post-secondary education. Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, University Corporation personnel and agency representatives. Possess a working knowledge of University Corporation at Monterey Bay 100 Campus Center Bldg. 201, Suite 119, Seaside, CA 93955 Rev. 3/7/25 JC1130-4 FP2022-799 best practices and strategies currently used in improving access and retention support to low-income and firstgeneration college students using an asset-based approach to building on the talents and strengths of each student; Working knowledge of college student developmental theories and practices; of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; of research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; of the techniques and methods of interviewing; of the basic principles, practices and major trends in academic advising.
Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of CAMP and its relationship to the total campus community; ability to interpret and apply program, campus, state, university rules and regulations. Ability to gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews; ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports. Ability to work effectively and interdependently in a diverse university environment. Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and university policies and regulations pertaining to academic achievement. Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning a student's academic pathway, work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to collect, compile, and evaluate academic transcripts and make verbal and written recommendations accordingly. Knowledge and understanding of Title V, E.O. 595, 665, 405, and CSUMB Admissions and Financial Aid policies. Fluency in using standard office software packages.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Equivalent to a BA degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in areas related to college, pre-collegiate, college advising and/or retention, post-secondary academic advising and/or student academic services. Special emphasis shall be placed on relevant experience in academic advising and working with migrant students both at the sixth through twelfth grade and at the post-secondary level.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual (Spanish/English). Preferred writing and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence. Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population.

The hourly hiring range for this position is $24 - $26. Classification: Grade 3, Staff. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
